| Friedman receives Kiwanis Golden Rule Award |

AUG 20, 2008 -- For his long and distinguished service to the Atlanta community, Samuel G. Friedman, Jr. has been named the 2008 recipient of the prestigious Kiwanis Club of Atlanta “Golden Rule Award.” Mr. Friedman was presented the award Tuesday, August 20, 2008 at a luncheon event held at the Loudermilk Center in downtown Atlanta. .
Friedman, chairman of AFCO Realty, Inc., was the seventh recipient of the award given annually by the Kiwanis Club of Atlanta. The award honors an individual, organization or company that represents the objects of Kiwanis by giving primacy to human and spiritual values rather than to material values and reflect the daily living of the Golden Rule in business, civic and personal relationships.
“I salute Sam for his many accomplishments,” said Major General Duke Duquemin, U. S. Army retired and president of the Atlanta club, “This recognition is richly deserved. His unparalleled record of service to the greater Atlanta community has spanned more than 30 years.”
Mr. Friedman’s civic leadership positions include serving as a board member and chairman of the Atlanta Housing Authority, board member and chairman of the Atlanta Union Mission, and chairman of the Atlanta’s PATH Foundation. Mr. Friedman’s leadership talents have also been prominent in the Buckhead Coalition, an organization of 100 Buckhead-area CEO’s that donate funds, time and skills to quality-of-life improvements in the Buckhead section of the City of Atlanta.
Previous recipients of the Kiwanis Club of Atlanta Golden Rule Award have included Tom Cousins, Arthur Blank, Bernie Marcus, John Conant, and Lee Burge.
