USS Eisenhower: Navy invites business & civil leaders aboard war-bound carrier
NEWS RELEASE
MAY 7 & 8, 2006 -- It sits off the Florida coast. The nuclear-powered Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Dwight D. Eisenhower is headed for Iraq. The Navy believes its job is so important, they want business and civil leaders to see it. Up close.
AFCO's Sam and Geoff Friedman were among a small, select group invited for two days of sights, sounds, and smells aboard an aircraft carrier on its way to war.

The father-son team sat in on a pilots' briefing, were briefed on the ship's mission by the carrier group commander, and stood with the crew on the flight deck and watched airplanes safely land on a runway moving at 30 knots.
"It was a great honor and an awesome experience to spend time with these young people as they prepare to enter the war," said Sam.
Named for the nation's 34th president, the vessel also affectionately known as Ike will soon celebrate 30 years of service in the Atlantic Fleet. Since that time, the carrier has completed nine Mediterranean Sea deployments. |
